Emandare sits on a south-facing, terraced hillside in the rain shadow of Mount Prevost overlooking Somenos Lake. This combined with the Cowichan Valley climate creates a unique piece of land, ideal for wine growing.
All of the wines from Emandare are 100% estate grown and dry farmed organically on our 8.5-acre North Cowichan vineyard. We are not certified organic but choose to farm this way because working along side nature is at the core of our wine growing philosophy. The vineyard is full of life and our goal is to capture a glimpse of this place in every bottle through old world, low intervention, and natural wine making methods. No commercial products go into our wines other then the bare minimum amount of organic Sulfite.
The 2014 Marechal Foch Is hand harvested and a field blend of 86% Marechal Foch and 14% Cabernet Foch grapes. Harvest was on October 4th, which allowed the fruit to achieve a balanced ripeness between the sugars, acids and fruit structure (ie. Seeds, skins, stems etc.). The majority of the grapes in this wine come from our block of 14 year old vines planted on the rocky, terraced east side of the property. After being de-stemmed and lightly crushed, wild fermentation was allowed to take place naturally in neutral French oak puncheons and partly in insulated food grade bins. Aged for 12 months in neutral French oak barrels, this wine is unfined and unfiltered to create a bold and juicy expression of Emandare’s nature.
This wine carries a beautiful balance between bold aromas and a fresh expression of fruit and terroir. Enjoy flavours and aromas of ripe black currents, black cherries, wild blackberries, cracked pepper and wild herbs with a kiss of sweet spiced vanilla. Pairs well with beef, lamb, and wild game or enjoy it with your favorite dark chocolate dish.
