Dow's 2006 Quinta do Bomfim Port 750ml
The nose on the Quinta do Bomfim 2006 is more masculine and reserved than the Quinta da Malvedos 2006 with tertiary/underbrush aromas and introspective dark fruits that demand coaxing. The palate is...
Fonseca 2012 Guimaraens Vintage Port 750ml
“The 2012 Guimaraens Vintage Port was bottled in 2014. It comes in at 103 grams per liter of residual sugar. Surprisingly powerful, this opens as a brooding Port. It isn't so appealing just...
Taylor Fladgate 2012 Quinta de Vargellas 750ml
“The 2012 Quinta de Vargellas Port, a typical Douro blend, was aged in large French oak vats for 24 months and bottled in 2014. It comes in at 103 grams per liter of residual sugar. This opens...
Messias 2011 Vintage Port 750ml
While 2011 has been widely seen as one of the great Port vintages for long-term aging, there are also wines, like this, that are so attractive they can be drunk early. This wine, with its perfumed...
Fonseca 2005 Quinta do Panascal 375ml
“Structured, complex wine that is only just beginning to hint at considerable depth of powerful, rich flavors. The structure is dry, a little lean, but with dense tannins. The fruit, rich plums...
Taylor Fladgate 2016 Vintage Port 750ml
Now with a couple years in bottle, I am erring to the Taylor’s over the Fonseca (although these can always change!) The Taylor’s show more delineation and refinement with pure black...
Taylor Fladgate 2003 Vintage Port 750ml
“The 2003 Taylor’s has a lovely ripe, primal bouquet of blackberry, raspberry, vanilla and marmalade that shows slightly better delineation than the Fonseca. The palate is medium-bodied...
Description
Saturated bright ruby. Primary, backward aromas of cassis, redcurrant, licorice, minerals, bitter chocolate and spices. Penetrating, structured and powerful. Not hugely sweet but boasts superb flavor definition and impressive extract. A very unevolved port that's best today on the expanding finish, which features notes of cassis, violet, dark chocolate and peaty earth and terrific grip and thrust.
Score: 93+ points -- Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2003
