Domäne Wachau is one of Austria?s most renowned wineries, based in Austria?s most prestigious wine growing region, the Wachau. Steep terraced vineyards, a cool, marginal climate and meagre primary rock soils define the wines. ?Smaragd? stands for complex, full-bodied wines of the Wachau with ageing potential.
The highly appraised single-vineyard "Pichlpoint" can be found right in the heart of the Wachau in Joching. The name ?Point? is derived from the ancient name for a bordered plot of land, similar to the ?Clos? in Burgundy. The soil at Pichlpoint is determined by a considerable amount of loess on top of the mother rock. Pichlpoint yields particularly fruity and elegant wines with a characteristic depth and concentration on the palate.
Crystal clear straw yellow with subtle golden highlights. Boasting intriguing and multi-layered aromas of ripe fruit, forest soil and deep spicy notes. Dense and creamy on the palate with a racy acidity and a sumptuous texture. An archetypical Grüner Veltliner with impressive structure and a long and spicy finish.
How to enjoy best
Serve well chilled directly from the fridge. The wine perfectly accompanies fish, deep-fried dishes as well as savoury meat dishes and grilled meat. Already very approachable with ageing potential of at least 4-8 years.
