From 50- to 100-year-old vines and fermented for 20 days, the 2016 Saumur Champigny Vieilles Vignes opens with a deep, pure, fresh and spicy bouquet of milled stones, precisely defined dark fruits and red meat. Silky, fresh and very elegant on the palate, this is a tight and concentrated, finessed and stimulating Cabernet Franc whose yields were reduced by spring frost in late April. At five years of age now, this is an excellent, sustainable and firmly structured Saumur-Champigny with class, length and style. Excellent!
