Domaine Cailbourdin 2019 Pouilly-Fume "Cuvee de Boisfleury" 750ml

The entry-level wine, from deep clay soils over Portlandian limestone, this has a richly polished stray-coloured hue in the glass. The nose brims with wonderfully pithy citrus fruits, with a challenging intensity and a rich sense of building energy. This latter element translates nicely onto the palate, which does much more than meet my expectations, showing fine polish and a touch of gras, but also a very confident and tightly grained thread of flinty minerals and taut acidity, intertwined through the substance of the wine. The style is undeniably richer and broader than the other cuvées, this being the mark of its entry-level status rather than the flavour profile, which is no less intriguing than Les Cris or Nanogyra. In other words, this is a very good entry level wine indeed.
