A superb effort, the 1998 exhibits abundant quantities of black currant and cherry fruit subtley dosed with toasty oak. A medium to full-bodied, nicely-textured, pure effort, with a moderately tannic finish. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2014 and beyond.

The second wine of Leoville-Las-Cases is one of the finer St.-Juliens, as well as one of the best second wines being produced in Bordeaux. Displaying much character, the 1998 is an elegant, finesse-styled offering with medium body, and fresh, pure black cherry fruit flavors combined with earth and spicy wood.
