Founded in 1937, Vecchia Cantina is the oldest wine producing co-op in Tuscany. For almost 80 years, they have been a driving force in the region, almost single-handedly sustaining the DOC following the Second World War. This terrific Tuscan value comes from vineyards half a kilometer above sea level, on top of a limestone ridge adjacent to the ancient village of Montepulciano. Grapes are hand-picked, fermented in temperature-controlled, and then macerated in stainless steel.
This wine is a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot. Rich and juicy, the balanced acidity nicely extends the black fruit flavours. Finishes smooth, showing a broad, easygoing quality. Aged 6 months in Slovenian oak. A great value from the excellent 2015 vintage in Umbia that is worth stocking up on.
