California's wine history begins with Spanish missionaries planting vines as they moved northward along the Pacific coast. During the mid-nineteenth century gold rush, immigrants from Italy and and elsewhere in Europe planted vines brought with them as they moved halfway across the world to seek their fortunes. The modern Californian wine industry began to take shape in the 1960s, and international recognition came only in the late 1970s after wines from Napa Valley bested the French classics in high profile wine competitions. Nowadays, there is a world of wine variety produced in this magnificent state. Marquis is proud to offer BC wine drinkers exclusive access to a number of California's most sought after wines, from the likes of Turley, Mount Eden, Philip Togni and more.
