I love the name of this wine. Scassa means "to break apart," and the moniker pays tribute to the difficulties of preparing the land for this planting of Barbera vines. The Bruna Grimaldi 2020 Barbera d'Alba Superiore Scassa shows a rich, dark ruby and nicely concentrated appearance. It opens to sweet cherry and plum and follows up with light spice and a hint of wet earth or powdered licorice. Drink now-2026.
