Looking for something plush and positively decadent to unwind with? Feast your eyes (and your palates) on this.
Baccolo, made in tribute to Greek wine god Bacchus, is a “Super Venetian” blend of local star Corvina (the grape that powers Italy’s famous Amarone) and international Merlot. Like its fancier cousin Amarone, this rosso is crafted in the traditional “appassimento” method, whereby some of the grapes are dried before being turned into wine – adding major oomph to the aromas and flavors in your glass.
Not only was it a big hit with our resident Sommelier Ferdy (“This is terrific, I absolutely love how long the finish is!”) but Italy’s leading critic Luca Maroni gave Baccolo a 95-point rave. Now it’s your turn.
You’re in for intense aromas and flavors of baking spice and ripe, black cherry fruit. You’ll immediately notice how dense and mouthfilling it is after a single sip – not shy in the glass, this one! Sip it alongside your favorite firm, mature cheese, or go for a hearty meal of roasted red venison loin, rack of lamb, or meaty pasta.
