Bordeaux

Bordeaux is unquestionably the most well-known wine producing region in the world. Its fine wines, some of the most expensive and sought-after in the world, represent the height of gastronomic class and elegance. Those pricey treasures, however, represent only a small fraction of Bordeaux's production - the largest of any region in France. Dry and sweet, red and white, ten dollars or one thousand dollars plus, there is a bottle of Bordeaux for every occasion. Located on France's south west coast, sitting astride the Gironde estuary and the two rivers that feed into it, the Garonne and Dordogne, Bordeaux's southern or "left" bank is famous for its Cabernet Sauvignon, while the northern or "right" bank is known for its Merlot. White Bordeaux is comprised primarily of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, as is the deliciously sweet Sauternes dessert wine.
