How Much to Order

There is a simple calculation you can use to determine the precise amount of wine you need for your event. This is what you need to know, or download Marquis Wine Cellars' Ordering Guide (47KB pdf) guide, we have used it for years and it works.

Basic Rules of Thumb

  1. Each glass of wine contains approximately 5 ounces of wine.
  2. Each bottle of wine containers 26 ounces of wine (750ml).
  3. Therefore you will get 5 five ounce (150ml) glasses of wine out of one bottle of wine.
  4. You can serve 60 people one five ounce (150ml) glass of wine from a 12 bottle case of wine.

The Calculation

  1. If you have 100 people attending your event.
  2. The average* consumption is 3 glasses per person - remember each glass contains 5 ounces (150ml).
  3. That is an average of 15 ounces (450ml) per person multiplied by 100
  4. That equals 1500 ounces (375ml) of wine.
  5. Divided by 26, equal’s 57.6 bottles, round it up to 60 bottles and that is how much you will need for your event.
  6. If you want to be on the safe side order a case extra – six red and six white, but no more. Here is why:
    • We have a responsibility to ensure our guests do not consume too much. Be on the safe side…
    • Drink responsibly & get home safe

* Remember this is an average per person; some will drink more some less, some not at all.

What to Order: A Quick Breakdown
