Cameron Winery:
The arrival of new Cameron wines are always an exciting time around here. John Paul, owner and winemaker of Cameron, is an iconic figure in the Oregon wine industry and produces some of the most highly acclaimed and sought after wines from the state. Not much of his wine makes out of the direct area, and it is a huge honour for Marquis Wine Cellars to be able to offer these wines to their customers. Cameron wines reflect its location like few wines we've come across, and are as beautiful and distinct as any wine in the world. On top of that, they've re-done their website and in my opinion it's one of the best ones in the wine industry and coveys to me what Cameron (and John Paul) are all about; knowledgeable, opinionated and incredibly witty. As always, quantities are very limited, so if you're interested in getting some Cameron, please act fast.

Crowley Wines:Crowley Wines | Pinot Chardonnay | Oregon
Tyson Crowley began working in the Oregon wine industry in 1995 and after 12 years of learning from many of Oregon's top producers, it was time to take his knowledge to task and venture out on his own. Tyson's lessons learned came from seven vintages at Erath Vineyards, ramming around on a forklift at all hours of the night and shepherding countless interns (many of whom became famous winemakers) through the gauntlet of harvest. Most recently, Tyson beat out Jackson the dog as John Paul's most loyal companion, serving as the assistant winemaker for Cameron Winery and working doggedly alongside John in the vineyard and winery for four years. Harvests spent at J.K. Carriere and Brick House also taught valuable lessons in fruit fly killing and pseudo gravity flow. After this requisite due paying, Tyson (and company i.e. family, friends and neighbours) will draw inspiration from these many lessons taught to him by his mentors, co-workers and friends.

"During my winery visits in Willamette Valley I always ask whether there are new and interesting people that I ought to meet. This year the name Tyson Crowley came up so frequently that I felt compelled to see him and was able to work out a visit on short notice. He began working in Willamette Valley in 1995 and served apprenticeships with several of the more iconoclastic figures including John Paul of Cameron, Doug Tunnel of Brick House, and Jim Prosser of J.K. Carriere. He started operations in a custom crush facility just off 99W in 2007. Crowley ferments all his wines with native yeasts, never adds acid, and bottles without fining or filtration."

2009 Crowley Vineyards Maresh Vineyard Chardonnay - $49.90
"A single vineyard Chardonnay from the Maresh Vineyard in the Dundee Hills AVA. Planted in 1983, this 108 clone is located at 850 feet and sustainably farmed. The site is ideal for Burgundian style Chardonnay. Aromatics of white peaches, papaya, mineral, slate, and faint anise meet the quintessential lemon and lime that is characteristic of this high elevation site. An austere front palate gives way to buoyant acidity and fresh fruit while the warmth of subtle spice and lees influence an intense and sleek Chardonnay. The generous finish extends into a round mixture of bright apple and honey. Only 50 cases made."

Amalie Robert:Amalie Robert

Amalie Robert is located approximately 15 miles southwest of Salem, Oregon, near Van Duzer and Cherry Hill Wineries. Amalie Robert Estate is owned and operated by Dena Drews and Ernie Pink. The dry farmed vineyard is currently 21 acres, predominately Pinot Noir. When fully planted, there will be about 45 acres under vine. Although young, the vineyard is already showing signs of producing very high quality fruit that makes Pinot Noir with an intriguing expression of terroir. The vineyard is predominately south facing with mostly Bellpine soil, a silty clay loam. The elevation ranges from about 275 feet up to 650 feet. Vines are spaced 7 ½ x 4 feet, providing 1,452 vines per acre. Amalie Roberts continues to sell grapes to the likes of Beaux Frères & Cristom (good company to be in). They were also listed as one of the top 100 wineries of the year by Wine & Spirits Magazine, and listed as an 'essential winery' by Northwest Palate Magazine. In my time in tasting in Oregon, I had heard of Amalie Robert, but had never tasted the wines. As fortune would have it, Dena from the winery contacted me last year and sent up samples, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. And after a slight delay (sorry again, Dena) I ordered the wines and here they are; a great compliment to our already stellar selection of Oregon wines. Their moto of "wines true to the soil and true to the vintage" could not be more true, and we're honoured to be selling their wine.

2009 Chardonnay - $33.90
"Tart and slender, this is deceptive at first it seems a little thin, but as it opens in the glass into a succulent, well-defined, racy wine with citrus and peach, mineral and herb. It's not delicate, but its muscularity is concealed behind elegant styling.
Editors' Choice, 90 points" - Wine Enthusiast, March 2011

2006 Amalie's Cuvée Pinot Noir - $63.90
"Vivid red. Intensely perfumed bouquet displays fresh raspberry, cherry, rose and magnolia scents, along with a suave, smoky mineral underpinning. The red fruit repeats in the mouth, picking up candied flowers and licorice with air. Impressively pure, with excellent finishing sweetness and persistence. As alluring as this wine is today, I'd give it another three or four years in the cellar. 92 points"
