"Pithon’s 2003 Coteaux du Layon - Ambroise displays a surprisingly deep amber color. Over-ripe apricot and caramel dominate the nose and mouth. A truly viscous, creamy texture marries delightfully with the flavors of lightly singed, caramelized apricots and peaches in buttered pastry. There is only a subtle impression of sweetness, reflecting an uncanny balance which – given the combination of ripeness and fat displayed here – is obviously a tribute to huge extract. Hints of white raisin and candied lime peel join the peach and apricot in the finish of this rich, sedate, ethereal elixir.

Jo Pithon, one of the outspoken advocates of biodynamic viticulture, puts his wines, both dry and nobly sweet, through extended time in barriques, and the results in 2005 include wines marked by pronounced lees, malolactic, and wood character which in a vintage already tending toward fat and fullness some tasters may enjoy more than I did. 92 points" - David Schildknecht, Wine Advocate # 172, Aug 2007
