About Australian Wines

Australia has a rich and storied history of crafting wine. With the arrivals of some of the first immigrants from Silesia, fortified wines were the first order of the day. Flash forward to the 1950's when the legendary Max Schubert, while working at Penfolds, recognized the potential of Australian wine and in secret he began to make Grange Hermitage.

There has been a slow and much needed correction in the Australian wine category. The country still produces some legendary wines: Rockford, Lakes Folly, Grosset, Wendouree, Penfolds Bin Wines, Yalumba, Giaconda, Vasse Felix, Spinifex and Torbreck are some of the quality minded producers who are worth seeking out.
