Woodward Canyon 2010 Merlot 750ml
This wine shows beautifully with elegant high toned fruit, very nice acidity and overall proportion. The Weinbau Vineyard has produced a complex flavor profile of subtle cherry, spice and coffee while the Woodward Canyon property offers more earth. Notes of fruit, spiced oak, leather and earth are in the aroma. Rich black cherry fruit and fully mature tannins make this wine generous and balanced enough for current drinking, yet with the complexity and structure to age well for six to eight years.

Woodward Canyon 2010 Estate Red 750ml
Composed of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 7% Syrah, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Merlot, this shows a deep ruby color and a rich nose of blackberry, cherry, cassis, and black olive, with scents of crushed roses, cigar box, juniper berries and sage. On the palate, the flavors are deliciously supple, yet deep cored, underlain with licorice, bittersweet chocolate, French roast and minerally earth. The back reveals squeezed berries, roasted nuts, mocha, kirsch liqueur and crème de cassis, followed by a fine balance of fruit acids, deft oak, and subtle spices on the lingering finish.

The Villero cru is in the Castiglione Falletto commune - known for producing wines of great elegance. Average vine age here is 60 years. On the nose there is pretty red cherry, tar, floral notes, eucalyptus and loads of earthiness. The Nebbiolo shines through, with power and complexity, and well integrated, drying tannins. This wine is young and needs time to soften out a bit.

Fruit for this wine comes from vineyards where the average vine age is 30 years. Both the nose and palate are broad with prominent notes of earth and spiciness. Girard 2009 Mixed Black 750ml
"Believed to be Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Syrah, Grenache, Mouverde and other red and white varietals. The century-old vines are planted in a field blend style with various Rhone varietal and Zinfandel vines interspersed throughout the vineyard blocks. The grapes are harvested at the same time and processed in a co-fermentation style with everyone jumping into the pool at the same time. The resulting product is a wonderful old-world, field blend style wine. Extracted and aromatic with well structured tannins, our 2009 vintage is a medium-bodied mouthful of dark chocolate, ripe plums and cassis with hints of vanilla extract, molasses and toasted tobacco." - Winemaker's Notes

Ridge 2010 Merlot 750ml
"Ridge first made merlot in 1974 from the exposed Point vineyard, planted on Monte Bello Ridge at an elevation of 2600'. Originally, we wanted to see if the varietal could match the quality of, and be included in, our estate cabernet. Once satisfied that it could, we planted more merlot over the years as space and resources allowed. From 1975 on, it has been a part of the Monte Bello whenever assemblage tastings so indicated. As the younger plantings matured, it became apparent that not only did merlot complement the Monte Bello, but also had the structure and complexity to merit a separate bottling. Rich bramble fruit on the nose along with fennel, black olive, and savory dried herbs. A very smooth entry, medium-to-full bodied with round tannins and a lengthy finish. A very elegant wine."

Ridge 2008 Mazzoni Home Ranch 750ml
"50% Zinfandel, 49% Carignane and 1% Petite Sirah. These century-old vines-head-pruned, and planted as a field blend-receive no irrigation. They rely on rainfall trapped in the rocky sub-soil. The vineyard was stressed by California's second drought year, but a mild summer kept the vines from shutting down. The grapes, wonderfully concentrated, were picked early, at the start of September. Berry size was unusually small, producing a deep-colored wine of intense flavor. Fermentation was brief, and we pressed early to keep tannins in balance. We chose several carignane-dominant blocks, combining them with blocks comprised mainly of zinfandel. The wine aged in seasoned American oak barrels for sixteen months, and was racked off its sediment quarterly, for natural clarification. This excellent vintage displays the dimension of flavor typical of wines from field-blend vineyards. It will be at its best over the next seven to eight years."

Jim Barry 2006 First Eleven Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml
"Deep garnet colored, the 2006 First Eleven Cabernet Sauvignon presents intense eucalypt, kirsch and black currant cordial aromas with an undercurrent of cloves and tree bark. Medium to full bodied and with plenty of taut fruit in the mouth, it’s well supported by crisp acid and a medium to firm level of grainy tannins, finishing long. Still very vibrant and youthful, it’s just entering its drinking window now and should cellar to 2023+. 92+ points" - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, eRobertParker.com #199

Aldo Conterno 2009 Nebbiolo Langhe DOC "Il Favot" 750ml
"Conterno’s 2009 Langhe Nebbiolo Il Favot is a good introduction to the wines of this historic estate. Sweet red berries, flowers, French oak, anise and tobacco waft from the glass. This is a decidedly medium-bodied, fragrant wine. The Favot is Conterno’s entry-level Nebbiolo and is made from the estate’s younger vineyards, all of which are typically less than 20 years old. It is the only Nebbiolo aged in French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015. 90 points" - Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate #203

Antoniolo 2008 Gattinara "Le Castelle" DOCG 750ml
“The 2008 Gattinara Le Castelle is the most immediate of the estate’s single-vineyard wines in this vintage. It opens with a solid blast of fruit, but never goes too far from there. The French oak, while not overly intrusive, does appear to attenuate the finish. Next to the other wines in this lineup, the Castelle is a bit less distinctive and polished. The wine does open up nicely in the glass, so it will be interesting to see where things go from here. A sweet, inviting finish rounds things out nicely. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020.” 90 points, The Wine Advocate #203

Antoniolo 2008 Gattinara "Osso San Grato" DOCG 750ml
“A model of understatement, the 2008 Gattinara Osso San Grato is pure class and elegance. In 2008, the Osso San Grato stands out for its weightless depth and richness. Sweet dark cherries, plums, tobacco and incense all wrap around the palate in this deceptively medium-bodied Gattinara. Sweet floral notes add lift on the finely knit finish. Osso San Grato remains one of the great, iconic wines in Italy. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2028.” 92 points, The Wine Advocate #203

Château Bellefont Belcier 2010 St. Émilion 750ml
"The wine offers up notes of jammy black cherries, black currants, licorice, camphor, underbrush and some subtle vanillin. The wine is full-bodied, voluptuously textured and rich, with good acidity, surprising freshness and laser-like definition given its ampleness and length. It can be drunk early on for its beautiful fruit, but look for this wine to hit its stride in 5-7 years and last for two decades. 92 points" - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #205
